In response to a query about a drink called 'Loki', sampled at a Renaissance Faire by 2Gabby, posted on 07/25/05: Subject: Request: Looking for Loki Hi there, I'm looking for a recipe for a drink I sampled at a Renaissance Faire, it was called simply "Loki", and was held in great esteem by all who tried it. :o) When I inquired about this mysterious drink, I was told that the recipe was "secret", and it's recipe a closely guarded secret. One friend did mention that it was made with Everclear, but didn't know the other ingredients, or what was required to make it...just that it took a couple of weeks?!? Anyway, I thought I'd consult some professionals, and see if any of you had ever heard of this...TIA! Sorry so long to make this post, but I just stumbled across this forum looking for the same recipe. According to the mixologist and creator, the name is properly 'Loki's Revenge', and the "secret" is a secret no longer. In fact, there are Loki Competitions and a wide variety of flavor variations these days, but the original recipe (and my personal favorite) is as follows: One gallon of Water One 4lb bag of Sugar One cup of Vanilla Extract One cup of Almond Extract 1,500 ml (two fifths) of Everclear 1. Mix Water and Sugar together in a large pot over a medium heat. Ensure that all the Sugar melts. 2. Allow to cool completely. 3. Add the Extracts and Everclear. 4. Bottle and store for at least a month, three or more preferably. This will produce about two gallons of Loki, so be prepared with enough containers. 5. Drink responsibly. For some reason the phases of the moon and the mind set of those involved in the mixing seem to have an effect on the outcome of the potency, flavor and smoothness of the finished product. Try this as a group effort and see what you can come up with...
