I found a job within a few weeks of finishing a week long bartending school
(20 hours). I had no experience in the hospitality industry, but I did have 12
years experience working with the public. I started as a banquet bartender for
a large national hotel chain. I've worked there for a year. It's a good place
to start for several reasons. First, there's a demand. Where I live, there are
ads every month for banquet jobs at large hotels. Second, the drinks are
basic. Banquet bars dont usually have room for a lot of liquor or mixes so
you're making fewer drinks, although there are exceptions. This is a good
environment in which to learn. Third, every function is different so you get
lot's of exposure to different customers. Finally, its very fast paced. I also
worked in a restaurant bar. Banquets will keep you hopping!
Good luck.
