I am a graduate of an excellent bartending school and I have been freelancing
since then, though looking for a more permanent restaurant/lounge position.
It seems that these are hard to find though; I have been told more than once
that bartenders reach the bar after putting their time in as a server or
barback.
I am wondering if this is true, if this is the only way to get a job starting
out? Our school instructors insist that it isn't, but it helps to know if
this is the way things are usually done in the real world.
If so, I would be happy to take a barback position if I thought I could easily
move up to where I really want to be.
By the way, I am also a mixologist and getting ready to sit for certification,
so I don't know if this helps or not.
Thanks!
