Rail drinks, also known as well drinks, are called such because they are made
with the liquors that are kept in the speedrail or well. These are generally
cheap liquors which aren't made by a company which specializes in anything in
particular. Some companies, such as Mr. Boston, make every kind of base
liquor.
I say that they are cheap, no-name liquors, generally. This is not always
true. They will almost always be the cheapest liquors in the bar, but that
doesn't mean they'll be off brands. I used to work at a bar where the well
vodka was Absolut, gin was Beefeater, rum was Bacardi, etc. I hope that
answers your question.
