This drink calls for 2 ounces of rye whiskey (if available)

1/8 to 1/32 of an ounce of sweet vermouth (very potent agent) so very little
is needed.

Simple syrup

2 dashes of Peychaud bitters

Stir these ingredients

This drink can be served up in a cocktail glass or on the rocks in an
old-fashioned glass.

This drink is garnished with a maraschino cherry.

Any heavy deviation of this (i.e. coke, dr. pepper) and you can no longer call
this drink a "manhattan" of any sort.

Bourbon and Coke is "quite good" also.

cheers!
