Rick, you sound very enthusiastic and I can appreciate that, but many of your
facts are incorrect. You should get my book, Miss Charming's Guide for Hip
Bartenders and Wayout Wannabes, The Everything Bartender's Book, and
Bartending Basic to help brush up. Oh, Also, my iPhone app, Miss Trivia has
5000 drink related questions to have fun with.

> Back in the 1980's rum drinks tended to be the most popular.
> about 1988 or so "Peach Schnaaps" hit the market, and there was a
> sudden jump to make drinks formerly of Peach Brandy, as "Peach
> Schnaaps" drinks -Sex on the Beach etc. By the late 1990, Vodka
> really became king as well as the increase in popularity of "sour
> type drinks".
Peachtree Schnapps came out in 1984. The Fuzzy Navel came out first (Ray
Foley, owner of Bartender Magazine claims to have invented it)and the Sex on
the Beach came out right after.
Don't even know what this means: "and there was a
> sudden jump to make drinks formerly of Peach Brandy"
When Sex in the City became popular, so did the "Cosmipolitan"
> Then came the "Mohito" craze right after "Casino Royal" came out.
The Cosmo had actually been around awhile before Sex in the City. It was first
invented in 1986 when Absolut Citron came out (There's a whole book about it).
But yes, the Cosmopolitan was mentioned and seen in Sex in the City on July
18th, 1999. It was the 2nd season, 19th episode called The Chicken Dance.
Samantha orders one at a wedding bar and Carrie orders scotch straight up.
Dale "King Cocktail" DeGroff was responsible for it making into the show. And
the drink exploded worldwide.

> Now all types of crazier drinks, layered shots, and chilled shots are

Ummmm, I don't know you're age or where you have worked, but this is untrue.
The crazy names started exactly 30 years ago. I was there. They started from
the sexual frustration of not being able to have free sex anymore because of
the AIDS epidemic.
Now everyone does. - note: 20 years ago it was make with
> Raspberry Schnapps float the baileys.
30 years ago there wasn't raspberry schnapps. It was made with grenadine.
Note Bailey's likewise and Amaretto
> are more popular now than in the '80s.
Baily's and amaretto was most popular in the 1970s. Baileys came out in 1984.
Amaretto has been around since the 1500s.
>
> Likewise now coffee brandy has gone out of style and people use
> Kahlua.
Coffee brandy? What's that? Kahlua is just a coffee liqueur...one of the
higher end ones.
>
> Want to know what liquers to stock in your home bar
> Southern Comfort, Yukon Jack, Schnapps [ Strawberry, Cinnamon,
> Peppermint, Butterscotch ]
I'm glad you know that SoCo is a liqueur. Yukon Jack? Are you from Canada?
> Trple sec and Blue Curaco (or Just Triple Sec - you can get some
> blue food color and mix a drop with some Triple sec when you need it
> to be blue)
Basically true.
> Creme DeCaCo (preferably both but if room for just one choose
> White]
Creme de cacao (ca-COW). Ask someone that speaks Spanish and they will tell
you.
Hope this helps.
