Flat out telling them they have had too much to drink is a sure fire way to
make them mad and draw more attention to the problem. The best way is to watch
your crowd and find out which group of patrons were leaving next with they're
designated driver, and place him/her with them and explaine they were going
his/her way.Groups of happy xmas patrons will do the rest for you ,usually
with a simple "yea bob..come with us...".This usually does the trick. If they
are not willing to leave,I would try to divert them away from the bar into the
direction of the buffet table..Once full they slow the drinking on own. The
average xmas party is usually only a few hours long, and if this fails, i keep
them engaged at the bar with light-hearted conversation and the subtle trick
of phasing alcohol out of the drink. Using tact makes it a happy occasion for
all involved.I have been a guest at parties where "tact" was not used, and
nothing is worse than seeing a pissed off party-goer wearing reindeer
antlers!!...But like i said in my original thread, It gets harder every
year..people seem to drink more and socialize less at these functions now .
