In a corporate gig you'll have more time and space to learn the bar and a bit
more job security than a family owned, smaller establishment; however, they'll
be far less friendly and tolerant of deviation from the norm with zero room
for tardiness or absence for any reason.
If you're a newer bartender with only a couple years experience, I highly
recommend you spend some time learning classic drinks, etiquette, wines and
specialty beers prior to your first day. Get their menu and drink price
lists for study a week before you arrive. Beer and wine lists are helpful and
any relevant descriptions of those particular brands as a cheat sheet. Find
out if they have a opening and closing procedure list they could fax you.
If done correctly, the hardest part of the job is learning the names of
everybody and mastering the till.
