Think you're doing it wrong. Put the black PLASTIC bit into the top of the 
bottle, then put the silver METAL bit into the hole in the black PLASTIC bit. 
Should work fine ;)

PS OK, I'm only joking. Sometimes the plastic ones (which are a bit crap)get 
the hole for the air flow covered up by whatever they use to coat the pourer. 
Turn it over and look underneath for the hole then use a cocktail stick to 
poke it all the way through. (Now for the physics 101...) See, its no good ust 
having one hole for the liquid to flow through. If you consider air as a fluid 
its easier to understand-as the liquor flows out of the bottle, something 
needs to flow into the bottle to replace it-in other words, air. Hence the 
need for an air hole.
