Great topic idea, adn welcome!!

My experience has been this.

Independent/Family owned places are more relaxed when it comes to the 'rules',
whereas a corporate setting has a standard for everything.

Indies don't have the capital resources that a corporate place does.

Harder to make 'changes' in a corporate atmosphere.

Better benefits in corporate. sometimes you even have a 401K option.

Congrats on the new gig!
