So my wife and I were visiting one of our favorite bartenders tonight and
guess who walks in and sits at a cocktail table...? None other than those
infamous Gallagher brothers and Gem Archer of Oasis! (the band who sings
Wonderwall) At first I wasn't 100% sure, but eventually I worked up the
courage to just walk over there and ask, lol. And I say "work up the courage"
because I hear they are real A-holes and don't like having their personal life
interupted by media/fans... ( i mean have you seen their interviews?!? they
tear those poor reporters to shreds everytime!) Well, suprisingly, they
wern't rude at all.. infact they were all really nice guys. Apparently they
are staying at the hotel we were at and are here on tour and playing a live
show tomorrow night in Oakland, CA. (wish i woulda knew so I coulda got
tickets.. DOH! ...)
Anyway it made me think of all the Celebrities I have served as a bartender...
My most memorible had to be Patrick Dempsey (Mr. McDreamy from Grey's
Anatomy).. I was working fine dining at the time and It was a totally packed
saturday night and I ended up totally blowing his cover.. He was in a baseball
cap and sunglasses so you couldnt recognize him.. he was also with a decent
size group of people so he blended in even more.. But the whole time at the
bar he looked totatlly suspect... then he tells me hes ready to close out the
tab and hands me his credit card (effin AMEX Black Card...) and I read the
name on it.. and without even thinking i say out loud "holy shit, you're
patrick dempsey!!" ...
Well ofcourse at a packed bar a few people are going to over hear me... and
whaddya know, The entire 3 story restaurant was well aware of Mr. McDreamy's
presence in only a matter of minutes. The place just absolutely ERRUPTED... i
mean there were crowds of people who got up from their tables just to come
downstairs to the bar to lay eyes on him... it turned the whole restaurant
into a zoo. When his party went upstairs to eat, we had to take two bussers
off the floor just to guard his table from people trying to come up to him and
take a picture. And the worst part about it was when he was on the spiral
staircase that leads up to the restaurant from the bar, he rolled his eyes and
sarcastically mouth to me "thanks a lot..." .. he probably hates my guts.. lol
:O O: :O
Anyone got any good "celebrity at your bar" stories to share as well..?? or
better yet, good or bad tipper!?
heres the few that I have served:
Good:
- Patrick Dempsey
- Magic Johnson (the nicest guy ever... and SUPER TALL, he makes me feel
short.. and I'm 6 foot 3!)
- Montell Williams
- Pretty much every NASCAR driver ever (I worked in Daytona Beach whaddya
expect..)
- Chris Berman
Bad:
- Rusty Wallace (the only bad tipper from nascar)
- Avery Johnson
- Antonio Tarver
