I Realize this has been a point of Contention for a long time and there are
numerous threads on it but for clarity starting a new one.
Back in 2000 when I was Bartending at a Private Golf course in WA state. I
had a lady I knew from another Establishment come in and ask for a Washington
State Apple shot. (Shots were not permitted at weddings so I made it in a
Martini Glass)
I knew her from the place called Suni's (was a real hopping Establsihment
back at that time and people came from quite aways to go there)which was in
Lynnwood Wa.
I never made one before so asked for the ingredients.
They were
Vodka
Apple Pucker
Cranberry
Splash of Crown Royal or Jack
Due to being in a Martini Glass I changed the amount of the pour from the
shot pour of 1/3rd of an ounce to 3/4's and a 1/4 ounce of Crown Royal(We had
the small martini Glasses which suck for true Martini's along with Cosmos and
Lemon Drops)
Crown Royal was not the main liquor but Vodka was. The Vodka Gives the
Drink a more clean Crisp Flavour which is what an apple should be. (Washington
State Apples actually used to be a good apple but due to marketing and
longevity they have been altered and now are a low grade apple)
I am sure Crown wanted to market the drink with their product so started
printing the drink recipe for restaurants and lounges and in the process left
the vodka out for marketing and profit reasons
