1. How old were you when you started bartending? 18 2. Did you go to a special school to learn bartending? If so, which one and describe the things that you did there: Time of classes, how many classes a week, amount of classes, what did you learn at the school overall, and was it enjoyable? School of life-the only way to learn. 2 1/2: How long after this school did you get a bartending job? n/a 3. Do you need a license? How do you get one? Nope (I'm in England) 4. How much do you get paid by the hour? Average weekly income? And if you wouldn't mind, how much to you make on your PAYCHECK a night compared to how much you make on tips. EXAMPLE: I make $80 a night, plus about $50-60 on tips. Varies( I do a fair bit of freelance work), usually £65 per night (can be as much as £150). Tips are variant as well, the british aren't a tipping culture, but its been known for me to make up to £100 in a night from tips alone-but generally i just let em buy me a beer and if I've got any left over by the end of the shift then I take em home 5. Do you enjoy it? Have you ever created a new drink of your own? Love it. And yes, I've created a bunch of drinks of my own-some are twists on an old theme, others are just ideas plucked from nowhere. (Most bartenders have created drinks of their own-but they very often don't taste good!!) > > 6. Do you use FLAIR in your bartending (Flipping/juggling bottles, > lit drinks, pouring 2 bottles from the same hand)? All of the above and a bit > of fire-breathing n'all. The ladeez like it. > > 7. Did you ever have a bar fight? What was the outcome? What sign do > you always go by to say "Sorry Sir you've had enough"? > Once on Christmas eve i was working in a grotty nightclub and this guy was > stood by the bar giving his girlfriend some major grief. She started crying and as I walked > over to tell him to leave her alone and get him thrown out he swung at me. > Somehow I ducked the punch, and just as security were on the way over to grab > him, threw a haymaker of my own and floored him, surprising myself more than > anyone else(not a big fighter me-getting hit hurts, and hitting people doesn't > do much for your hands) As far as 86ing people goes (that is the right > expression isn't it???...trying to learn the language you guys speak;-) ) > generally look for glazed eyes, slurred speech, leaning heavily on the bar, > staggering. Normally just try to tell people to have a soft drink chill out > for a bit and then maybe get another beer later. If they get aggro about it, > that's when you put your foot down and get rid. Any morehelp required-get in touch with mehere. Good luck, but don't rule out the other options-being a bartender is great fun, but hard work. Get your education and use college as a chance to get acquainted with bars, cocktail culture and drinking generally. You could even part-time to get some money together. Hve fun and good luck with your assignment. Latrs TQnGJ
