Believe it or not, but the English Navy, (not, note the British Navy) once
ruled the seas.Seriously! They kicked the Spaniards, Portuguese and even the
dutch ass. (sorry, America, but at this time you were just an awkward
colony,
and even when you did rate the term "enemy," you were never exactly nail-
biting material.) Although the English Navy were the nastiest bastards
around,
(Sailors were "pressed," i.e hit over the head, carried aboard, and by the
time they awoke they were well to sea, given the choice, "work or
overboard")
they were allotted a pint (A PINT) of rum each day!! (Untill that bastard
Admiral Simmons stuck his nose in, and reduced it to a poultry half-pint,
and M Thatcher, not content with nicking milk off children, stopped it all-
together in 84) Anyway, back to the point, the biggest tossers around, (the
English ) are offering rum, so what's good for the goose.......
Is exceptible for our proverbial gander, so to speak.
Hence, your pirates, (who were normally English, Portuguese, or Spanish
deserters) tended to be preferable to the ol' glug or five.

   Class dissmissed
Sorry to bore you, but you did ask

   peace, love and eccles cakes,

   Paolo
