I worked at a gent's club but in Jersey, which is totally different than
Manhattan. The place I worked in was a hole in the wall & I made horrible
money. The only way a bartender could make good money was by dong private
dances and/or selling champagne which we got a commission of. I just found it
so odd that bartenders also did dances.
In Manhattan, you're dealing with people who spend more money, so it should'nt
be as bad. I heard at Scores for instance you have to pay to work there, just
like the dancers do (but not as much)
As u said the potential is there to make the money, but you do have to put up
with more sexual stuff as opposed to bartending at a restaurant. Think about
it: there's sex all over & ur the one who the customers have the most contact
with for free - so it can get annoying & dirty. But if ur comfortable with
being overly flirtatious every night - then give it a shot. I just got burnt
out very quickly at the place I was at (customers were expected to tip the
bartenders just as dancers in between their boobs), but you will prob. have a
better experience in Manhattan at one of the nicer/bigger places: Scores,
Penthouse Club, HQ, Hustler club.
Keep me updated on ur choice - I would love to hear how it turns out.
PS: as for the boyfriend let him know it doesn't matter what location u work
in; you can easily get hit on or cheat on working in any other establishment -
it's up to you as an individual
