Where I work (and I think this is fairly common), we use a 10 point scale.  
Every full bottle gets counted as a 1.0, half bottle as a 0.5, etc.  It's not 
exact, but even counting up to a dozen bottles of the same liquor in a given 
inventory, it's close enough to give us a reasonably accurate measure of how 
much we have.
