Great idea. I had thoughts of implementing a similar service. However, the sad
honest truth is that these programs have been tried and they don't work. First
of all, it is not cost-effective (unless you figure in liability in anecdotal
instances such as the one discussed. Even then, it's no guarantee from such
litigation which occurs about as frequently as winning the lottery). And
secondly, all these ‘save-a-life’ programs have been good for is to offer free
rides for soaks from one bar to another.
The bottom line is; we can’t, as a society, continue to attack the symptoms
of social ills with so-called ‘easy fixes’. At the risk of sounding an
epidemical alarm, it is as good as plugging holes in a bursting damn. We must
hold people accountable to their own PERSONAL RESPONIBILITY.
