here is how i would ask for the job when i come face to face with the manager,
and everyone is different with interviews.
"hi my name is _______, i really like your bar. i am looking for a job. i
want to bartend for you, if you dont have a bartending job i would gladly
barback for you. back home i started out as a barback and worked my way up.
i am willing to do what ever takes to get my foot in the door out here in L.A."
now the next line i have to give credit to my fellow deckhand on the alaska
crab boat i worked on. when he was looking for a job, he would tell the
captain this. "i want to work for you. can i work the first day for free?
if you don't like my work, don't pay me, and i will be on my way. if you want
me to stick around, pay me twice on my second day."
i think that is fair. and if they don't want you after you bust your ass for
them, you don't need 'em.
by the way, here are a couple of links to my crabbing days on my old boat the
F/V North Sea.
