In my opinion bombay have done a amazing marketing campain but that is as far
as it goes. They have started calling themselve a neutral grain spirit
flavoured with juniper!!! Isnt that juniper vodka!! They us a neutral spirit
and hang all the botincals over, heat and as the vapour passes through it
catches a slight flavour. Not only is this very waste full on the botanical
side as they us i think its 5 times more botanical than other gins. Tan 10 an
amazing super premium gin. They leave all the botinicals in for a maceration
period of 24 -48 hour this doesnt only include the dry botinicals, also
includes whole lemons, limes and oranges. For me this gives a really nice crisp
clean flavour with a hint of citrus. Plymouth is for me in the top two of gins
it is distilled in the same way as a london dry gin but really the only
difference is the water and place of disilation (blackfriars, Plymouth). At
the moment for my top gin is beefeater. Its true to its word, it is a london
dry gin distilled in london. Miller's and tanqueray both london gins but
neither are distilled in london anymore. Tanqueray is made in scotland, not
100% where miller's is made!It is also made in a similar way to tan 10, the
macerate all botanicals in the vat with the base spirit. The reason for the
slightly dry taste,is the use a higher content of juniper berries than other
gins. All the guys from the UK if you get a chance go to see the master
distiller Dez. Its in kennigton near the oval 10 mins from central on tube!
Its an experience.
