While I have never had to cut anyone off except for friends at parties with
whom I could be more brusque/rude/violent, I have thought many times about how
I would do it if put in the situation. I think a firm "I think you've had
enough," should do in 90% of cases. If not, then an "I care about you as a
customer and I can't let you do this to yourself," or something along that
lines, should take care of 90% of the leftovers. As for the 1% that just don't
get it, well, that's why I have a retired cop sitting quietly in the corner on
weekend nights...
