I soldiered on through this article even though the first two sentences were
simply wrong:
"James Bond is well known for ordering his vodka martini shaken not stirred,
but he never seems to have specified what the vodka should be made of.
It is possible that, like many vodka drinkers, he was not even aware that some
brands are made from wheat, others from rye, barley, potato, beet and cane
sugar, fruit, or even maple syrup."
In the very first novel, Casino Royale, Bond orders a drink, one that he would
in a later chapter call The Vesper, and compliments the barman, but adds one
caveat:
"'Excellent,' he said to the barman, 'but if you can get a vodka made with
grain instead of potatoes, you will find it still better.'"
Most interesting, however, is that once again, we're shown that when it comes
to vodka, price is worthless as a guide. For 3 times the price of Glen's,
Ciroc provides a mere 1.2 more rating points and at twice the price, Absolut
provides 1.2 fewer rating points.
