personnally,I never purchased a book or went to school, but i feel that just
buying a book, leaves you with no experience, but at the same time,I have found
that just because somebody had graduated from bartending school...does not make
that person a good bartender.I started also when I was 19,and in college,I was
working at a resturant(cocktail waitress)i was fornuate to be offered a spot
behind the bar,and i've been bartending there for the last 15 years!I find
that most employers hire people with either school or prior experience, not
from just practicing at home, actually I've never heard of that,my advise to
you is to go to school and at the same time try to get a job at a place that
would consider placing you behind the bar once you have graduated.Good Luck
