Yeah, that is possible also. I for one wouldn't rule it out.

I just think that there is too much coincidence that the North African
countries populated by the French have traditional drinks recipes that happen
to be the same as syrups we use and are named after French terminology.
I believe the French would have taken the recipe for Hlib Bel Louz and adapted
it, although there is little or no difference, to what we call Orgeat today!
I like your ideology though. Puts another interesting spin on the origins of
Orgeat/Grenadine.
