It is also possible that they originate from another place than Arabia and 
traveled to Europe through Arabia. 
Pomegranate originates from Persia and Almonds are natives of Asia. 

Also recipes might have been developed independantly. A recipe for a syrup is 
very basic it is no coincidence if ther are resemblances between syrups around 
the world. 
I would thing think that it is more probable that the fruit travelled to 
europe and that they made syrups without knowing recipes from africa or asia.
