Subject: Why are Boston Shakers called Boston Shakers?

Why are Boston shakers called Boston Shakers? Were they invented there? Was it 
the name of a company? When did they first appear?
* Have posted same question over on drinkboy. Who will respond first? Time is 
of the essence, I have a customer waiting for the answer......
