I'm new here and everyone will slowly be seeing me come into the conversation
more and more. And, here is one of those times when I got something to say :).

About the bartending class "a scam." I would completely disagree. While some
classes might not be worth the money, and others being ridiculous...I went to
a 400 dollar class that was worth every penny. My teacher was very
knowledgeable, took her time before and after class to help, and got every
person in the class a job within 4 weeks of graduation.

I think what people are saying here is that the class is a mere intro class
(if that much). It's important and if you "have no experience" you will
probably find it very useful. It will not, however, teach you everything or
set you up with everything you need to know.

If its between barback and server and your end goal is a bartender, I would
highly recommend barback. You are behind the bar and learning the ways of the
trade.

However, maybe my opinion isnt worth much...because I also think that,
depending where you are, a school would be a good idea too.

Alex
