I agree, that would be a great way to completely kill the staff morale. Plus,
everyone would constantly be looking for a new gig "just in case" so you'll
just be speeding up the turnover rate even further.
If this was taking place in Oregon, the owner would go broke paying for
unemployment, though I'm not sure how it works in other states. In Oregon, if
an employee is fired through no fault of their own, the employer pays for six
months of unemployment. Claiming to have found someone that is better, is not
a legitimate reason for firing someone, as far as unemployment is concerned.
