Strip bars for the most part operate within an 'underground economy' so to
speak. I've worked in strip bars all over the Northeast, and St. Thomas.
I've never heard of such a thing, (but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist
in some form).
So what would happen if they let you go after a couple shifts, would you
get your money back?
Or what if you decide after two weeks that it isn't working for ya? Could
you get what you've paid back?
Bartenders in strip bars don't usually 'screw up' because of the lucrative
money to be earned in such a place. For a place to actually tell you that you
have to give up either X amount or percentage of your tips sends a red flag to
me, and is illegal.
Ask them if you can write a check for the whole amount up front, I'm really
curious as to what their response would be. Either way, I'd be looking for
some other place to work; methinks I smell a scam.
