You go, girl!!! Like you, I am also Black and have had my share of the 'leave
your number...' but in reality, that's any industry. Ya just gotta keep
pounding the pavement. I did both serving and cocktail waitressing for about
8 years or so, then decided to go to bar school as for me, it was a natural
progresssion from what I had been doing. I got my first bartending job at a
local VFW two weeks out of school, then moved from waitress to bartender at my
other part-time job. It's been 8 months now and I love it!
I found that with bar school, I had to totally immerse myself into it. I'd
seen a ton of drinks in my prior experience, but actually making them was
quite different. Not hard, just different. If you really have the time to
study what's being put in front of you, and you really want to do this, you
will. Good luck to you, and if you'd like to talk further, just email me.
