It's not too hard to memorize the drinks and the measurements but school is
good because you will learn how to make MANY different drinks all at the same
time and with school there is ALOT of practice and repitition. After a while
it will become second nature to you.

I started off cocktailing a while back and learned to make drinks when the
bartenders were too busy to make them for me. I'd simply ask what was in the
drink, they'd tell me and I'd make it.

I became a bartender from there but still didn't have enough confidence in how
quick I could make several drinks and decided to go to school.

Alot of people will tell you that school is a waste of money, but I firmly
believe it isn't. I went to school, knowing how to make most drinks but they
teach you how to make each drink in a certain manner so you can make many at
once.

Unless you have a bartender willing to train you every day for a while until
you get the hang of it so you are confident to be left on your own at a busy
bar, I'd recommend schooling. My schooling was $300 and I paid for it in two
nights bartending after I completed the course - it's worth it!:)
