try a imaginatively named 'Chocolate Orange'
1 oz cognac
1/2 oz white creme de cacao
1/4 oz mandarin napoleon
1/8 oz chocolate syrup
1/8 oz hoppe orange bitters / dash orange bitters
two small peels of orange rind
carefully avoid any of the white pith while cutting the peels. Muddle them in
the a bottom of a boston glass. Add all the liquids and lastly fill with ice.
Stir and strain into a chilled Martini glass
Garnish: A heaped teaspoon of shaved chocolate, floating over the drink and an
orange swirl hanging off the rim of the glass.
If Mandarin Napoleon is unavailable, Grand Marnier can be easily substituted.
The white creme de cacao provides enough nutty notes that you were looking for
and you do get a good balance of the choco/orange flavours. As for the cognac,
the fantastic bursts vanilla and dark chocolate from Hennesey Rare works like
a dream, although a decent VS should suffice. Not being a sugary overkill, it
also has wider appeal as an after-dinner drink.
Enjoy!
