Guys- I've just returned from Paris and wanted to share my views on Parisian drinking/alcohol etc. First and foremost, I found an excellent bar. If any of you are in Paris, go to Chez Felix at 63 Rue Mouffetard, right next to the Place Contrescape in the middle of the Latin Quarter (metro: Cardinal Lemoine or Place Monge). The bartender, Vincent, is a really great guy and knows his stuff. If you tell him that Jon from America sent you, you may even get a free beer (I spent most of a week there). During happy hour, from 5 till 10 pm, you'll find some of the most inexpensive beer in paris (13-18FF (US$2-3) for a pint). Next, I found that while a bar may stock eight different kinds of pastis, only more touristy areas will have amaretto. I thought that was pretty interesting. Also, they don't seem to have heard of Midori, though Pisang Ambon was pretty prevalent. Few more random thoughts before I hit the hay. They sometimes like to add shots of flavored syrup to beer. While adding peach or strawberry syrup makes it pretty gross, I found that adding lemon made it taste just like lemonade. Also, they don't have sour mix there - they have sugar syrup and lemon syrup that they mix as needed. I also discovered the joys of caipirinha (which, incidentally, Vincent does really well) and brought back two bottles of cachaca. I'm sure i'll think of more stuff soon enough, I just wanted to share my experience. meer
