Subject: Keeping muddling sticks in good nick

Does anyone out there have any tips for keeping their wooden muddling sticks
in good condition? Obviously keeping our little babies clean and dry is
important, but do you regularly soak the business ends in vegetable oils to
prevent cracking / recoat the stick in lacquer / do anything else? I've seen
some dodgy sticks out there and I'm determined that when I finally put my
money where my mouth is and buy a decent one, it's going to last.

Aside from Graphixaddict and his Pug (I hate you), do we all just have run of
the mill sticks for everyday use?

On a similar tack, how often do you replace your muddling stick? That's if it
starts getting a bit long in the tooth, not lost/stolen.
