Subject: Seeking advice on bartending 'try-out'
From: anonchump

I've been searching for my second bartending job (2 years experience so far at
a pretty laid back resort with a lounge) and managed to get a call for a 'try
out' at an upscale, crowded, fairly large martini bar. I am not sure what to
expect from this, was told they want to bring me in to see how I do for 2
nights, I should expect a 3pm to about 11pm shift on Thursday and Friday. I'm
pretty certain I will not get tips, and have a feeling the new guy will not be
welcomed with open arms from the other bartenders there. Does anyone have any
advice, or idea as to what I can expect from this tryout? I'm quite nervous
about this.

I do know my basic drinks like martinis and cosmos and such, but am pretty
lost when it comes to making shooters and such (the 25% dilution with ice
deal) and almost always wind up making too much or too little when I pour out
4 or so mixed shooters at once for a group. If a situation like this arises
during this tryout, do I simply be honest and tell someone 'I suck at making
shooters, help please' or just wing it and do my best?

Any advice is much apreciated. Thanks in advance.
