I agree that it is the norm amongst most tenders to become alcoholics. But,
with me, I noticed that it was a gradual increase in consumption from when I
started this endeavor of tending to the masses. I also do believe that denial
had a lot to do with it. When faced with true alcoholics who are retired and
have nothing to do, I ratioalized my drinking by telling myself that one or
two a night is nothing compared to the shmucks that spend half their day or
night at the bar. Comparing one alcoholic to another just left the same
conclusion- we're all still alcoholics at the end of the day, forget about the
variations and the extremes of it all. I don't drink at work, but at the end
of the shift, I really enjoy that drink to wind me down and take the edge off
of the crazy night I just endured. It's like a, "Congrats to you, Cat. Job
well done," drink to help me relax. I also feel like I've earned it for
putting up with all the bullshit.
