hopefully this isn't too retarded of a question...

so lets just take a lime as a basic example.  how does everyone decide on that 
line between effective muddling and reaching the point where you're just 
beating the hell out of the rind and pith??  anyone have any "rules" or is it 
just kinda a feel thing?
