I agree with Natrone, it's all about the tips - I'd say a good portion of 
restaurants/bars pay servers and bartenders equally, though I have seen a few 
that do actually pay their tenders an hourly wage that is a bit more 
significant. Pretty much the only raise you can expect is when your bar raises 
the prices - and your tips increase accordingly.
