Hey Cheerio,
I understand and respect where you're coming from... but in my church, many in
the congregation drink socially. There's really nothing wrong with enjoying a
few drinks during a night out on the town with a friend or two, or having a
couple drinks with your meal. Don't be ashamed of your adult choices.
As for some drinks to try that you may enjoy...
* Amaretto Sour
- Amaretto liqueur (tastes like cherries, but is an almond liqueur)
- Sour mix (Sweet/sour lemon-lime mix.. non-carbonated)
* Long Island Iced Tea
- Vodka, Rum, Gin, Tequila and/or Triple Sec
- Sour mix
- Coke
(This one depends on the place - ask how much the house pour is.. some places
will put 2 oz. of liquor in this drink, which may be too strong for you,
although the point of this drink is to taste like iced tea and mask all the
alcohol that's inside ... while other places will only put 1 oz. which would
be fine for you)
* Vodka/Water/Bar Lime
- Tastes like limeade
* Malibu and Pineapple
- Malibu Coconut Rum
- Pineapple Juice
*Sex on the Beach
- Peach Schnapps
- Cranberry Juice
- Orange Juice
*Brown Cow
- Kahlua coffee liqueur
- Milk
(tastes like coffee infused chocolate milk)
*White Russian
- Vodka
- Kahlua
- Milk
(a little bit stronger but still tasty)
Keep in mind that if any basic cocktail (like your rum and coke for example)
tastes too strong, you can ask for it in a 'tall' (bigger) glass or for less
ice in the 'lowball' (regular) glass to leave more room for the mixer (coke,
juice, non-alcoholic ingredients).
Also, you might consider ordering a cooler - which is a bottled alcoholic
beverage that contains much less alcohol than a cocktail. Popular selections
include Smirnoff Ice (carbonated, citrus flavour), Mikes Hard Lemonade
(commonly available in Regular and Cranberry Lemonade), Absolut Cut (a
vodka/soda cooler... pretty tasteless, depends if you enjoy soda water), and
Smirnoff Ice Twisteds (like Smirnoff Ice, except offered in a variety of
flavours... Green Apple, Raspberry, Tangerine, etc.).
As for a wine you may enjoy, many bars and restaurants carry a White
Zinfandel, which basically tastes like carbonated strawberry juice and nothing
like wine. We call it 'Cougar Juice' at my bar, it's very popular with the
ladies :)
Cheers!
DAN
