Thanks to everyone...whether you agree, understand or just offered answers to
my questions. Thank you.
A little history, for anyone curious about the reasons behind my hesitation.
This is certainly not the place for a religious debate...I understand that.
Not going there. At all.
I have my own issues with drinking that I need to get through. My dad drinks
all day, every day. Blue Ribbon Beer. Because of that, I was taught growing
up that drinking was this horrible taboo thing. I still have that mental
block, even though I KNOW there's no Biblical reason NOT to have an occasional
drink. That's why I don't feel like I'm being a hypocrite. I just don't want
someone else to be discouraged by it. I have yet to set foot in a liquor
store. That's only partly because I have my kids with me most of the time,
and...well, that would be like setting a bull loose in a china shop.
I honestly don't know how my friends will feel about it. After thinking about
it alot today, I may even talk to my preacher tomorrow about it and see how he
feels. I know that it's not ultimately his decision whether I drink or not, I
do value his insight.
I never tried alcohol when I was in high school...not once. I had my first
drink a year and a half ago, when I was 27 years old. I had maybe an ounce of
vodka (lol) in a glass of cranberry juice and thought I was going to feel
something. I was so pround of myself for even trying it. I've experimented a
few times since then...once I did get a little tipsy, but ended up going
straight to bed...so I didn't get to even enjoy the buzz.
The buzz is actually what I'm going for. I don't want to get hammered...just
loosen up a little. Beer is NOT my thing. I haven't found a wine yet that I
can even pretend to enjoy. I can count on one hand the number of mixed drinks
I've had, and I've enjoyed all but one...the one that actually made me tipsy,
and it was a rum and coke. I think it had more rum in it than it had coke. I
think it was bacardi. I didn't even finish it because I knew it was more than
I wanted.
As you can see, I'm a pure novice, and really have no business hanging out on
a bartending board. What I'm hoping to find here is a little helpful advice
to keep me from looking like such a novice when I'm actually ordering
something.
You guys can have a little fun with me if you want...but please be nice. I am
open to suggestions of what to try next. I have to make each one count, since
my opportunities to have a drink are few and far between. My last was a
Mudslide at T.G.I. Fridays.
Thanks again,
Cheerio Kid ~ Joni
