I've been in similar situations. Lots of people in the church are very against
alcohol and even the young people have some stigma against it. I think it
stems from the fact that lots of kids of alcoholics wind up "finding the
light".
I totally understand where this user is coming from, however I think the best
thing to do is, as you have said, either don't hide it, or be discrete and
drink at home or with your other drinking friends.
As for different glasses, I was always told that beer had to be in it's own
glass, because if a carbonated drink was in it before that it would affect the
quality of the beer or head.
