Depending where you go, and you did mention some corporate type restaruants,
they may have some rules regarding this, but one glass that's almost always
used for both alcoholic, and non-alcoholic drinks, and that's the pint glass.

On the contrary, in most settings, from a bartender's standpoint, I appreciate
if people at the table order via their server, for a couple reasons:
1) It's disrespectful to the server to bypass their services, unless of course
the service is terribly slow.
2) Through my personal experience, the tips from people that do this are
generally lower, if they even tip.
