Let me point out a couple things:
First off, you cannot BS your way through bartending. If someone comes up to
you and orders a vodka soda, sure, you can do that without a problem. If
someone comes up to you and orders a Mai Tai, what bottle do you reach for
first? Bartending school can be an asset if you went to a good one (I'm not
going to open that can of worms here), but it CANNOT teach you how to be the
perfect bartender - experience does that.
If you're a guy and you want to get into bartending, start applying as a
barback, or use your school's job placement function (hopefully they have
one). If you're a girl, start applying at new nightclubs - while I hate to
perpetuate the blatant sexism in this industry, it might work to your
advantage. In any case, if that happens, you'll either get worked into shape
in a real hurry, or you'll decide it's not for you.
Honestly, you say you don't spend any time in bars, your current job doesn't
involve bars, etc. - you don't function in bar situations, those are your
words. What makes you think you're capable of doing this job if you admit so
readily that you don't function in that environment?
