Yes.  Cognac is a subclass of brandy.  Specifically, only brandies made from 
grapes grown in Cognac, France can be called Cognacs.  These, in turn, are 
divided into seven categories:

grande champagne
petite champagne
borderies
fins bois
bons bois
bois ordinaires
bois a terroir

So, pour yourself a hefty measure in a snifter.  Hold it with your palm 
resting on the bottom of the glass.  It looks stupid, but the heat from your 
hand warms the cognac, releasing its aromas, which I really like.
