Lesson #1: You do not know everything about working in a bar, period. You
will never know everything, but right now, you can safely assume you know next
to nothing. If you want to get a job in the industry, try working as a waiter
or a barback first - these are the easiest and most cost-effective ways of
doing so, and they provide you with valuable hands on experience.
The best things a bartender can have are qualities seemingly unrelated to the
industry: Pragmatic, affable, intelligent, quick-witted, and laid back. If
you have all these things, you're already a step ahead of the game. The next
step is to start at the bottom and work your way up - oh, and don't forget to
enjoy the ride!
