That's sweet of you to mention my books. I don't really know if they are "must
haves" but at least they are fun. The real deal is that I'm a book
whore...they pay me to write stuff "they" want. That's the way it works in the
real world. The publishers/editors change so much, make decisions that you are
not part of, etc. (Get this--> I didn't even know what the cover of my 1st
book looked like until it came out!) I've pitched soooooooooooo many ideas to
agents and publishers shoot them down all the time.....now they just contact
me and I write what they want.... but with a positive outlook that the books
will open doors for me later.

My point is that I'm sure it's the same thing that other authors get
frustrated about...personally, I don't think that the BEST bartender book has
been written yet. I was just talking to a fairly well known Vegas bartender
that's trying to get a book published and well....here's his exact words in an
email to me:

"............after reading so many books out there that while do have some
merit, have absolutely no idea what they are talking about when it comes to
real-world bartending and operations, I figure if those books can get
published, I must have a chance. Even some of the most well-known/respected
authors/experts in our industry have written things that blow my mind... not
even close to accurate assertions and ideas. I find it humorous how many
people who either haven't ever bartended true high-volume and/or haven't done
it in 20 years seem to feel comfortable writing very specific books on the
trade. Do you notice this?.............."

I'm sure he wouldn't mind me posting that here, but in a lot of ways he's
right. The top bartender books available are filled with 3/4 of stupid recipes
that no one is ever gonna make (which by the way I think confuses the average
person out here that is just curious), and then 1/4 of the book has your basic
alcohol history, bar tools, etc. Plus he's right...a lot of these authors
don't even tend bar or haven't tended bar in over 25 years! That's one reason
why I will always respect Dale.
