Point is it's a shot glass, with contents (preferably strong), glass & all,
dropped into a larger glass almost full of something else (preferably fizzy).
freelivin91 called it a Drop-shot.
It's not just a gimmick, the 'plop' does change the consistancy of the drink
from what it would be if it was just poured. If you chug immediately anyway.
Sure, it's a gimmick as well. :-B
