I worked for the Wyndham, and depending on which hotel chain you are working
for.......Sometimes the banquet bartenders get screwed. I agree it's a good
place to start bartending, however our banquet tenders made $10 hour, no tips,
no gratuities. Were not able to put tip jar out, I couldn't believe any
bartenders would even go for such nonsense. I worked in our hotel bar, not
banquet, I made great money there. I got a lot of busines from the wedding
parties. They had a bartender, but I had a better selection of alcohol, and
they could all hang out in the bar and smoke. I litterally made $90 in an
hour one night, I was getting ready to close, because we shut down at
Midnight. This wedding crowd starting piling in my bar, my manager gave me
the option to stay open, I said yes. Stayed open till one, made $90. I used
to charge people $100 an hour to keep the bar open past Midnight. They would
take up a collection and have everyone chip in, I did this a few times. They
kept tipping as well, even though they had just handed me $200. I worked for
a very easy going manager, as you can probably tell. There really is money to
be made in Hotels, sometimes it's hit or miss, but it all evens out to be
pretty good money. Just see what they have to offer you with the banquet
thing. Make sure you can put a tip jar out, or that you are getting some sort
of gratuity on the sales. The hours are usually good as well, as most hotels
bars don't stay open past Midnight. Good Luck to you!
