My experience as a bar back was the best and it's most likely the reason I
want to become a bartender so much now. I got to do lots of behind the sceens
work, I got to venture into the different bars all on the same night. Let's
say a hotel type facility....I went from a wedding ceremony to a dance to a
bar in one night and got major experience from each situation. The first was
sort of slow, but the drinks were wines and more sophisticated, and the dance
was a mixture...but as a bar back (a 106 lb. female and proud of it) I wanted
to take things very slow at first to be the best when I get to become a
bartender. Had I just jumped in as a bartender I may not have thought much of
pouring wines all night on a Saturday or been stressed at a full bar. Believe
it or not the ones at the wedding pulled in lots more....everyone was over
generous on each toast!!
I will gain a world of respect for the worker bees that run the behind the
sceens show and in turn they will appreciate and help me too. Some of the
bartenders even let me do routine refills of mixed drinks, I got to watch them
do it a couple times and then they turned the customer over to me. I loved
it, I wasn't in any monetary competition with the bartender, but that
experience was priceless!!
Good Luck to you!!!
** Mr. Courtney you are a wealth of information too, some people treat
information like their spies or something but when I went to your sites, I
could see how learning new techniques and information could help the entire
establishment and working together pulls in a more fun crowd. Thank YOU
dearly.
