Subject: just got fired, need to vent.

So there was this banquet.

This horribly organized clusterfuck of a Rotary International banquet.

I was bartending, with no speed pourers and with maybe 1/5 of the stock I
would need. The line was ten minutes long, and when people got to the front of
it, I didn't have what they wanted. I was polite but rather frazzled. I
honored tickets for things we were out of (wine) with things that cost more
(top shelf liquor) and tried to make people as happy as possible with what I
had to work with.

Rotary International is one of our hotel's most important clients. Something
must be done about this travesty of bad service! Heads must roll!

heads like mine.

I got let go as well as the banquet manager so they could tell Rotary "we
fired that incompetent bar staff and the banquet manager, please come back."
I only worked banquets once in a blue moon- I was the senior bartender at the
restaurant. The fact that I had consistently performed above expectations and
was the leader in sales and sales per hour was completely meaningless compared
to placating a big client.

Now, even though my manager said he'd give me a good reference "under the
table" I'm out looking for a bartending job in the middle of winter in Austin,
TX and having to admit to being fired from my last job.

I know this is a pretty useless post, but I could use a bit of sympathy and
suggestions for job hunting.

thanks.
