I've rarely had a truly drunk person not argue and get at least semi-angry
when being cut off - however, on the flipside,I can't even count how many of
those people come back the next day, or next week, truly embarrased and
apologetic. I'm not sure what type of bar you work in, and every situation is
different, but I found myself having the toughest time cutting off my
regulars, though with them, after I felt comfortable enough, I'd just say it
like it was - "hey, I just can't serve you any more - if I do, I'll probably
lose my job and have to move in with your ass" Then I'd pass them a coke, or
something to eat. As for the rest of the drunken idiots out there, yeah,
they're going to get belligerent from time to time, and it's not an easy thing
to deal with, but you just have to bite the bullet and stand your ground. As
with any situation, if the guest takes it too far, have security handle. After
you do it enough, it'll get easier, and you'll find your own technique that
you're comfortable with.
